Me: Excuse me but are you a dancer in MJ? Wonderful conversation ensued.I recently reviewed the first DC Super Hero Girls graphic novel for School Library Journal's Good Comics For Kids blog and, somewhat to my own surprise, I liked it a whole lot. The next day saw one of the dancers at a coffee shop. Well, wouldn’t you know…I managed to talk my way in, free. Walk in Rough Trade and OMG- I am informed a concert by this band will start in 30 minutes. ( yep, I have eclectic taste) To recap- I was out doing one of my favorite hobbies- shopping for vinyl records. The Teasky Brothers are on a promotional tour for their new album. So if that wasn’t enough- I met a band I truly love at Rough Trade, a vinyl record store - really is there any better way to listen to music- not for me! Its when you get to go to NYC for a business trip that includes PTO, and you board the plane back home to Los Angeles so amused and grateful because this trip exceeded expectations…so full of FUN. It was great to be in a space where I knew I and everyone else attending mattered.Īnd of course, since it’s Bentonville I also made new client connections. I’m walking away with a new community of brilliant women whom I can call on. ![]() So many great thought leaders with great ideas. This Leadership Forum focused on NextUp 2024 region goals, organizing effectively, sponsorship strategies, succession planning. Role played what I would say.Īnd so imagine my surprise when this leader said- “hey you know I’m so glad we are meeting heard great stuff about you, I’ve got a few notes prepared”. ![]() Here I was a little nervous regarding this meeting. Thankful that on my own dime I flew in early to have a conversation with a leader I’ve wanted to connect with for quite a while. ![]() So I’m grateful to friends and NextUp leaders Melanie and HeeSook for selecting me and Elizabeth to attend this years Region Leadership Forum. A real need to change how my work week looks moving forward. I have a real need to get OUT of my work-from-home silo. Investment in my learning, investing in being a part of new communities, growing my network, doing impactful volunteer work and most importantly being inspired. This may seem like an unusual way to spend PTO, but it is aligned to my goal for 2024- investment in me. I’ve spent the first four days of PTO at a Leadership Conference in Bentonville.
